The Best that Whitley Strieber Has to Offer!

This book is the most compelling book about Alien Encounters that I have ever read. It is a brutally honest account of one man's struggle for complete understanding of what is happening to him. I have been a critic of Strieber's more recent books. This, his second book of the Visitor Phenomenon, better captures his feelings while he still had an honest perception of them.

Communion follow-up: recommended only for the Strieber devotee

This book was written concurrently with the author's international bestseller "Communion" and published just one year later. It turns out Strieber had always intended for his exploration of what happened to him with the visitors to become a publishing series, starting with "Communion" (which is genuinely worth reading) and continuing through further volumes, which sold far less well and are not so highly regarded.

Whereas "Communion" has a simple, visceral power and reads as a coherent, chronological narrative about the author's experiences with the visitors, "Transformation" is more a collection of recollections and speculations which didn't make it into the first book. It jumps from one idea to another and is less focussed than the first volume, though it does contain some interesting stuff. Further abductions both of Whitley and his son Andrew (whose real name is used in this book) are described, some of which do read as dream-like; their reality is degraded by the uncomfortable fact that, whereas thousands of abduction accounts from other abductees describe exactly the same beings and processes, Strieber's are in many details unique and different. This is usually a red flag, and lends support to the contention expressed by many that Strieber "has a hard time telling fact from fiction."

At the core of "Transformation" is the author's struggle to find the meaning of the experience, and here he goes way off the map. He journeys into metaphysical and rather new-age territory as he comes to believe the visitors recycle souls, and that the Earth is a kind of "school." There are echoes of Jim Sparks' writings in the self-indulgent, obsessively introspective narcissism which characterises much of the book's content.

Strieber is still a good writer though, and this is the saving grace of "Transformation." From the pen of a less competent writer it might read as a rambling incoherent mess, a meandering tract of new-age mumbo-jumbo. However the book is better than that: it's just nowhere near as good as "Communion" and doesn't make any lasting contribution to the understanding of what is going on with this pervasive phenomenon - though it pretends it does.

In summary, "Transformation" would be of interest mainly to the devotee of Strieber's writing (and he's admittedly a good writer), or to anyone who wants to read everything ever written about the abduction/visitor issue. It's OK, but not one of the better books on the subject.

This book is out of this world

I loved this book, it is full of revelations about the mysteries of the human soul, and reveals that the universe is much bigger and multifaceted than the average man or woman could have ever guessed. This book is very deep, and has a definite spiritual feel to it. The book is a non fiction but poetic account of a man named Whitley Strieber, who has been abducted by aliens, numerous times throughout his entire life, beginning when he was a young boy. Transformation is highly literate, and extremely well written. It is never dull, a true page turner. The book reveals how Whitley Strieber the most famous abductee in America has been transformed both mentally and spiritually by his abduction experiences. Highly recommended to anyone interested in UFOs, alien abductions, the new age, freemasons, life on other planets, reincarnation, God and spirituality, as well as the deepest insights into the human psyche.

Author's History and Common Knowledge

Book is supposed to be about the grippers and methods of achieving their closure -- title reads: What They Are and How to Close Them. Instead, it's about the author's (and mostly Ironmind's since they're mainly a grip company) history and some useless general tips. For the history, just do a search and you'll find it all there in one page if you REALLY want to know the story. It's irrelevant to actually knowing the grippers and how to close them. I say useless tips because they're obvious facts that anyone who has done any reading about muscle gaining at all will know them. It was as useful as fortune teller.

Thorough, well written and interesting

I really enjoy this book. I really admire Joe Kinney and his plain speak about how to develop a really strong grip. This book is motivating and has tons of info on the grippers themselves, some myths dispelled, and good basic training info. Mostly, it is a map you should have with you on your quest for the COC 3. I closed the 3 and this book helped me do it. Now I'm onto to closing the 3.5, which is a real bear.

The Gripper Bible!

I love this book! Instead of complicated answers to the simple question of how to get stronger using grippers, I learned valuable lessons on the application of hard work and goal-setting.

That's what I like about Ironmind, they don't try to sell you anything other than what's required, and they are not afraid to let you know when honest hard work is the path to reaching your goal.

The first part of the book is devoted to the history and development of Iromind's Captains Of Crush Grippers. It made interesting reading and cleared a lot of confusion for me about some of the claims being made by rival gripper manufacturers.

The second part of the book focuses on how to train. Along with basic training advice from Randall Strossen aimed at the newcomer to gripper training, Joe Kinney and Nathan Holle reveal how they trained to officially close the number 4 Captains of Crush Gripper. Kinney shares some very interesting and innovative insights into his mental approach to workouts, and the training methods he uses, while Holle provides a different but equally effective method of training to get a super-strong crushing grip.

I finished the book with renewed motivation to train, and the tools required to get the job done.

In this book, Berlant chronicles the origins and conventions of the first mass-cultural “intimate public” in the United States, a “women’s culture” distinguished by a view that women inevitably have something in common and are in need of a conversation that feels intimate and revelatory. As Berlant explains, “women’s” books, films, and television shows enact a fantasy that a woman’s life is not just her own, but an experience understood by other women, no matter how dissimilar they are. The commodified genres of intimacy, such as “chick lit,” circulate among strangers, enabling insider self-help talk to flourish in an intimate public. Sentimentality and complaint are central to this commercial convention of critique; their relation to the political realm is ambivalent, as politics seems both to threaten sentimental values and to provide certain opportunities for their extension.

Pairing literary criticism and historical analysis, Berlant explores the territory of this intimate public sphere through close readings of U.S. women’s literary works and their stage and film adaptations. Her interpretation of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and its literary descendants reaches from Harriet Beecher Stowe to Toni Morrison’s Beloved, touching on Shirley Temple, James Baldwin, and The Bridges of Madison County along the way. Berlant illuminates different permutations of the women’s intimate public through her readings of Edna Ferber’s Show Boat; Fannie Hurst’s Imitation of Life; Olive Higgins Prouty’s feminist melodrama Now, Voyager; Dorothy Parker’s poetry, prose, and Academy Award–winning screenplay for A Star Is Born; the Fay Weldon novel and Roseanne Barr film The Life and Loves of a She-Devil; and the queer, avant-garde film Showboat 1988–The Remake. A good mystery but with a disappointing end.

I am happy to know that an Indian mystery writer has joined the exclusive amazon book club. I have read many novels by Surendra Mohan Pathak and consider him a good mystery writer. In this book the atmosphere of the criminal side of Bombay city is well drawn. But the language seems to be contrived. It seems as if the language has been borrowed from the bollywood movies. The pace of the novel is fast. Once you start it you cannot leave it unfinished. But the end was very disappointing. The writer has tried to produce a rabbit out of the hat and he has miserably failed in his attempt. It is a forced end and is hard to digest.
