Great cookbook

I really like this book because it has great pictures of the food and includes many vegetarian recipes. If you want to make wonderful bread from scratch, you can learn it here, including making a sourdough starter. I don't buy many cookbooks anymore, but I thought this one was worth it.

One of my favorite cookbooks

best book ever. love every recipe I've tried - and I've tried 11 recipes so far. He has recipes for breads, breakfast, tartines, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. Healthy ingredients. Quick cooking/preparation. Beautiful pictures. He doesn't pad and fluff the text up with superfluous nonsense like American Test Kitchen books. Actually, the descriptors are minimal. The bulk of the text lies in the instructions, which are great. There aren't paragraphs of impertinent narratives and comments that have no impact on your preparation of the meal, which is awesome. Kudos to Coumont for many reasons. It is a straightforward recipe book full of delicious, interesting combination of flavors you wouldn't have envisioned on your own, which enliven and broaden the palate. Simple servings can be delectable, healthy, satisfying, and yes...beautifully plated!! I'm so glad I happened on his restaurant in Philadelphia and discovered his goods and the cookbook. Dessert section is fantastic. I love baking. I have been repeatedly disappointed with American desserts and American-written dessert cookbooks. The European patissiers, I will more likely trust. Coumont is a genius.

I have always gone into the restaurants and enjoyed their food. The book does not disappoint. And as usual, great food comes from simple recipes. Nothing complicated. And gorgeous photos.

About the Author

Lead author Paul W. Darst received a Ph.D in Physical Education from the Ohio State University. He is a professor and Department Chair at Arizona State University at the Polytechnic Campus in the area of Physical Education-Teacher Preparation. His research and teaching focuses on secondary school physical education curriculum, methods of teaching in the secondary schools, and activity habits of middle and high school students. He has been active professionally at the state, district and national levels of AAHPERD and has received numerous honors and speaking invitations.

In addition to co-authoring the previous edition of this text (Dynamic Physical Education for Secondary School Students, 7/e, Pearson, 2012) with Bob Pangrazi, and serving as its lead author, Darst also authored Outdoor Adventure Activities for School and Recreation Programs (Waveland Press), Analyzing Physical Education and Sport Instruction (Human Kinetics), and Cycling (Scott, Foresman and Company, Sport for Life Series). He has written many articles and made numerous presentations to teachers on new ideas in teaching and on working with students.

Co-lead author Robert P. Pangrazi is an internationally recognized expert in physical education training and instruction. He is professor emeritus at Arizona State University and an Educational Consultant for HopSports and The U.S. Tennis Association. His physical education textbooks have sold over 750,000 copies in this country and abroad. Pangrazi has published over 50 textbooks and 100 research and professional articles. He has been a keynote speaker for 39 state and district conventions and an invited speaker at nearly 400 national and international conferences. He regularly conducts training sessions for schools and universities and works regularly as a motivational speaker. His approach to elementary school physical education has been used worldwide by the Department of Defense Dependents’ Schools, nationally by the Edison Project, and is used in hundreds of public, private and charter schools across the U.S.

Dr. Pangrazi has received numerous awards including the Distinguished Service Award from the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the National Distinguished Service Award presented by the AAHPERD Council on Physical Education for Children, and the Curriculum and Instruction Emeritus Honor Award from the NASPE Curriculum and Instruction Academy He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education and an AAHPERD Honor Fellow.

Timothy A. Brusseau, Jr., is assistant professor of physical education at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, in the department of Exercise and Sport Science. His teaching focuses on secondary physical education curriculum and methodology, as well as coaching and diversity. Research interests include children and youth physical activity and programming. Dr. Brusseau received a Ph.D. from Arizona State University in Physical Education Pedagogy. He is actively involved in AAHPERD nationally and regionally, regularly making teaching and research presentations. He has authored numerous articles related to teaching and physical activity, and was a member of the author team for this text, 7e.

Heather Erwin earned her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Kinesiology in 2006. She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, specializing in physical education teacher education. Her research focus is on school-based physical activity, with an emphasis on physical education, classroom physical activity, and recess settings. Dr. Erwin has taught elementary physical education in Springdale, AR, worked with summer recreation programs for over 10 years, taught numerous training workshops on child and adolescent physical activity, and conducted extensive research in school settings. She has authored or co-authored multiple articles—both research-based and applied—on the promotion of physical activity and youth activities, and has been a contributor to and author of numerous Pearson supplements.

Book too good and expensive to be in Black and White

Dynamic Physical Education for Secondary School Students (8th Edition)

I'm giving a 3 star rating because the book is in black and white. That was not mentioned on the product page. I think a new one (which was my case) is too expensive to be in B&W. I've bought the same book for elementary school children and it was perfect (colors, quality of the pages, hardcover and fantastic content).
Don't know why the publisher or authors decided to publish this book in B&W and mantaining the price.
Besides that, the content is of most value to PE teachers

Imagine a new system of finding people with whom you could be compatible, or who at least understand the nature of your interpersonal dynamic. Based on information channeled from her spirit guide Grey Eagle, spiritual medium Altea (The Eagle and the Rose) has written such a system based on "Soul Signs" or energy groups: Fire, Earth, Air, Water and Sulphur. Although the first four sound similar to the cardinal associations of astrology, Altea firmly asserts that astrological and soul sign typing are different. For example, her mother is an Aquarian, but fire is her soul type. Fire souls are driven by passion; earth by a need to plan and strategize; air by a passive and calming energy flow; and water by a need to evaluate and compromise. The fifth group, sulphur, is a total departure from astrological ideas, as sulphur souls are driven by evil. Within each of the five energy groups there are subsets based on type of energy flow (introvert, central and extrovert), which is not the same as a personality type whom we might consider as introverted or extroverted. These subsets have evocative labels such as Retrospective, Visionary, Peacemaker, Newborn, Bright Star, Warrior Soul, etc. All members of the sulphur sign are considered Dark Souls. Since soul signs, unlike astrological signs, lack an obvious date marker, Altea gives numerous explanations and variations to help readers determine their soul sign and subset throughout. People are always looking for new ways to categorize themselves and others, whether it be by Jungian archetypes or astrology. The author of Soul Signs has created her own via the guidance of her spirit Grey Eagle and her own 20-odd years of observation of the human psyche. Although you may not take her word as gospel, she has developed an interesting system of "typing" people. There are 13 spiritual "types" in her system.
I myself am having a difficult time deciding which of the 13 "soul types" I am, so the book is perhaps not as helpful to me as it could have been. Also controversial is the idea that there is a very small minority of souls who are truly evil, not just disturbed. The author opines that there are people who born "dark souls" who are here just to revel in the hurt they cause others and for which there is no redemption.
If you can accurately choose your own type from the descriptions, then you'll be able to choose your most compatible soul mates from several charts included with the book. Good luck.

I Am The Seeker!

This book is very interesting, I was always curious in what I read on the back of the book, wondering how accurate the book actually could be. And I must say, even though at first I didn't know what I could be since she leaves the discovery to your own knowledge, I found this book to be endlessly fascinating. I did though skim through most of her words about other things, such as her own sign and how it affected her and the others around her, because that was not why I bought the book I just wanted to know who I was.

Yet if you skim through most of her talking and get to the main point of the book of finding out about all the personalities of the soul signs, it gets to be a great reading. It took me awhile to figure myself out, but if you just read the signs more carefully, and just think about yourself a little more, you'll realize one of the signs just hitting you.

I don't know if it was true for everyone else, but I found my zodical element, which is water, also being in my soul sign. I am a Seeker soul- wise, but I am also in the zodiac a Cancer. I wonder if others found themselves finding their soul sign in the same element as their zodiac sign like I did. I found that interesting. Yet I know I am the Seeker, and even the first time I read through the book I knew I found myself being linked to water still just like in my zodiac sign.

I think this is a cool form of thought, to think our soul has an actual sign alone is interesting. I say I believe it, since the Seeker soul sounds so much like myself. I would say this is a good addition to the library of astrology lovers such as I. If you love astrology, I recommend this as well.

Mr. Shea's book is the most comprehensive work I have read on this subject. He explains in detail the science and art of studio recording. Because of his lifetime of experience in the field he is uniquely qualified to write on this topic. I highly recommend this book to any aspiring recordists.

good book for the money

Good book for beginning, it does a good job of covering the basics first. The pictures in this are great I like the way he set up the different ties but the way he arranged his easy to follow symbols was more confusing than it was helpful. I don't like how he goes over the box tie at first comes back and covers it again then gives a bunch of examples of other finished ties with no explanation of how. He has a great idea in how he wanted to be different in how to arrange the book but came up a little short on some of the ties explanations. The photography in this book is on point the pictures are big beautiful and clear it is clear why the book isn't longer for the price because it is high quality photography and images in this book. If it were not for the photography I would have given it a much lower rating because of who short it is and how it cover the danger thing again got little reason.

Not for beginners...

The book is great, provided you already have a basic understanding of how rope bondage pieces are constructed. The photos are amazing, but they don't provide adequate step-by-step instructions. I gave the book three stars because I did learn a lot from it, but in my opinion, it's not worth the price.

One of the better Shibari books I've got on my bookshelf

This is smaller, yet higher quality softcover books dealing with this subject. It is front to back high quality step by step color pictures. It has an interesting legend system to go with each picture and sections for beginners, rope care, rope types, safety matters and some pages on the knots used. This book deals with standing, sitting or lying models only, if your into suspension then get the companion volume 2 "Sky". I do not do suspensions so can't comment on that book, but I suspect if it's anything like this book it's worth the money.

Reza Pankhurst's book contributes to our understanding of Islam in politics, the path of Islamic revival across the last century and how the popularity of the Caliphate in Muslim discourse waned and later re-emerged. Beginning with the abolition of the Caliphate, the ideas and discourse of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hizb ut-Tahrir, al-Qaeda and other smaller groups are then examined. A comparative analysis highlights the core commonalities as well as differences between the various movements and individuals, and suggests that as movements struggle to re-establish a polity which expresses the unity of the ummah (or global Islamic community), the Caliphate has alternatively been ignored, had its significance minimised or denied, reclaimed and promoted as a theory and symbol in different ways, yet still serves as a political ideal for many.

A Must Read - A Major Contribution to the Study of Islamic Politics.

This book is a must read for any analyst, student, or professor of Middle Eastern Studies and/or Islamic studies. It provides a coherent overview of the various discourses regarding the Caliphate and the concept of 'State' in Islam. But most importantly it does so without retorting to a "liberal yardstick" as the author put it and avoids the debilitating analytical categories ("Extremist/Fundamentalist v. "Traditionalist" v. "Modernist"). This provides readers with a radically more appropriate analytical framework which goes beyond Modern and Post-Modern assumptions. Dr. Reza Pankhurst draws out the general blueprint for this normative-framework, which is without doubt a major contribution to the academic study of Islam and "Political Islam".

Through this normative-framework, Dr. Pankhurst examines the concept of State and the Caliphate in the discourse of:

The Muslim Brotherhood
Hizb ut-Tahrir
Al-Qaeda
Tanzeem al-Islami
Jama'atul Muslimeen
And al-Murabitun

In doing so he provides insight into the method-of-thinking and the conceptual frameworks employed by these movements as opposed to arbitrarily putting them into pre-constructed Euro-centric labels. More so, by providing us with insight into the method-of-thinking and the conceptual frameworks employed by these movements the author gives us the tools needed to contextualize and of course analyze the policies of these movements.

Lastly, it is quite a relief that there is finally a reference that I can point to when asked for a book on "Political Islam" or "Islamic Politics". A reference which is both objective and enlightening.

It is a must read for those who have only heard of the caliphate from the media or terrorists.

A nice read and as others have pointed out does a good job of introducing the post-caliphate movements without resorting to apologia. However, personally, I think he could have dedicated some more ink to, at least, Tanzeem-e-Islami. For example, the concept of "theo-democracy" that is so pivotal to Tanzeem - and probably an important viewpoint in the grand picture - leaves the reader un-satiated.

Overall the author has done a good job of explaining the different connotations of caliphate especially as espoused by the Muslims, and how while it is a unifying concept but at the same time very diverse understandings of it exist in differing socio-political environments. It is a must read for those who have only heard of the caliphate from the media or terrorists.
