Disappointing

The book description promises that this book will "... guide you through these realms of healing. And as you move beyond the boundaries common opinion into the expansiveness of essential understanding, the insights, meditations, and inner practices will light the way.". Yet the book provides only a mere introduction to the subject, and does not at all provide enough in the way of concrete examples, illustrations, or practical guidance to supplement the rather nebulous ideas it expounds. As I read it, again and again I kept thinking okay now it will get to the real meat of the matter, yet again and again was disappointed that specifics were just not there. The book leaves the reader with the sense that he or she has just read the first chapter of a much larger book. If the book had cost $15, the disappointment might be mitigated, but $40 is a lot to pay for a summary introduction. ... This book is a translation of the original German "Die Heilung." In many instances, the translation is poor. If you read German, by all means read the original German. ... The book is full of conspicuous typos that seem to relate to the German original, e.g. "Biographie" and "Tabel of Content" ... If you are looking for information on Hellinger's family constellations theory, you won't find it in this book. There's hardly more in this book on the topic than you can find on his website.

More EXCELLENT Insights from Bert Hellinger!

"Laws of Healing" challenges us to look at illness in a different way. Almost every condition comes down to a lack of connection with our family, especially disharmony with our parents. If we can't accept how life came to us through them, we can't fully accept the life that came to us through them. In other words, when we reject them, we reject life. And this is where illness starts to take hold of our bodies. It is as if "dis-ease" arises from a lack of love, connection and belonging. In order to heal at our deepest levels, we need to re-establish and/or recognize these elements in our lives. "Laws of Healing" seems to suggest that there are profound changes possible by exploring those invisible dynamics between parent and child, and that it's never too late to change your perception of your relationships, and thus change those relationships, regardless of age.

Amazing book. Amazing insights. Life-changing.

I have spent my whole life in various forms of therapy, workshops, meditations, et cetera, to help me recover from my childhood family dynamics. Was diagnosed with PTSD along with my older brother after my younger brother died from essentially all the same issues. A friend gave me a session in Family Constellations. That one session and the follow up shifted EVERYTHING. Things that previously had completely alienated me from my birth family (and therefore my ability to create ongoing stability and love in my personal home life) were "represented" clearly and precisely by people who didn't know me and didn't know anything about the dynamics in our family. What's even more incredible, huge unresolved conflicts were untangled and brought to a healthy and healing resolution in love, which resulted in a huge (and wonderful) shift in my personal relationship with my lover. The effects of this work were so profound that I bought about 7 books and started reading to understand what had just happened in this invisible Knowing Field (morphogenic field) to bring such release and positive outcome when a lifetime of other therapies, meditations and techniques (such as EFT) have been very wonderful but not able to go as directly to the Source and facilitate a harmonious resolution so quickly. This little book has given me access to that insight. It's profound. It is taking me way off the map to include concepts that I never thought possible. As I apply what I am learning (which in some cases has felt far-fetched and impossible) I am finding surprising and harmonious outcomes in long-standing inner conflicts that I felt I was doomed to repeat for the rest of my life.

Understanding what is going on here is giving me the insight and techniques to unlock my own potential as well as help,others to do the same. It is also explaining what happens when, as a screenwriter and actress, I have found myself doing my very best work by what I call "dropping down into the worlds" and letting the characters just "channel" through me. That process is very much alive in my spiritual-emotional-physical system (after many, many years of trial and error). What I could never put together prior to this was how to explore my own invisible systems and bring them into Harmony. This little book is giving me those tools so that I can help myself as well as help others who want to actualize their full potential.

The Hot Prince of New Orleans

Hold on to your pearls ladies or if you are anything thing like New Orleans debutante Sarah Delacroix rip them off and let them fall. I know I would do that in order to get with that hot sexy biker turned businessman, Micah alas Prince. But hold on did Prince really turn from badass biker from New Orleans into a businessman in California who was able to live life out as a “Prince’s” dream?

Strip you Bare is the conclusion of the Deacons of Bourbon Street MC series in which guys are trying to regroup the MC after something big went down during Katrina in order to find out who killed their previous president, Priest. Micah is the last of the banished MC guys to make it back to New Orleans to find out who killed Priest. He came reluctantly since he had a life that he thought he wanted away from the MC and everything they stood for. He made it big in the business world and had the money to show for it but family is family and when the Deacons called him back to help he had no choice but to go. He owed Priest big since he was the one who took in this kid off the street looking for a place to belong. The Deacons had found out previously that they were now owners of a mansion which was signed over to them from the Delacroix family who happened to be old money in New Orleans. Of course the well to do family members stepped out onto the “wild side” to fill their sexual desires as well as making big money off from all the ugliness that happens on Bourbon Street all without getting their hands dirty. That’s when the Delacroix had no problems going to the established biker gangs on Bourbon Street to take care of their dirty work.

Micah’s job was to go to the Delacroix mansion and see what he could find out from that angle on the inside. What he found was Sarah Delacroix herself granddaughter from the well-off family. This was the beginning of the battle between Micah and Sarah. Even though Micah came across hard assed and taking what he wanted, he had no idea what he was up against when it came to Sarah. Sarah didn’t have much to lose because the only family member she believed she had left was her grandfather and she had just broken an engagement with her cheating fiancé. Unlike the rest of the debutante in New Orleans she wasn’t going to stand for it and kicked old Charlie to the curb. Micah tried to push Sarah to the wall, literally sometimes. (wink wink) He didn’t know that he had taken on a person who was looking for a place where she felt she really belonged. The chemistry between Micah and Sarah was off the charts and even though Micah thought he was the total badass in all of this he soon found out that Sarah was the tougher of the two and knew what she wanted.

So who really did kill Priest and what was Priest to Sarah? Was Sarah actually willing to give her ball gowns up for a biker’s bitch patch? And would that patch actually come from Micah or from someone else in the MC who didn’t push Sarah away? There are so many questions that will get answered in this book and it takes you on one hell of a ride getting there; some to really surprise you. Ms. Yates does a great job of making you feel every one of these characters in this book and you will not be disappointed. I have to say that I will miss the Deacons of Bourbon Street and can only hope that all the authors involved in this series will look at taking us on another stroll in the French Quarter with these men and the women behind them.

Finding your true self

I received this for an honest review. This is the first book I have read of Maisey Yates. I love the bad boy books and Micah Prince Carpenter was just that. They always say opposites attract and Micah and Sarah was defiantly that. Though I have to say they also had one thing in common. They both denied who they truly were. Always pretending to be something they were not.

Sarah Delacroix was a true southern belle. She was almost like royalty. She thought no one messed with the Delacroix. Her father had died and her grandfather was all she had left. She was so prime and proper. Now here was this Bad boy in the living room of the Delacroix Mansion telling her it was now owned by the Deacons of the Bourbon Street. She could not believe her ears or her eyes as far as that goes. He was everything she should not want.

Micah “Prince” Carpenter was no longer part of the MC. He hated the thought that he was back in New Orleans. All he wanted to do was go back home to San Francisco. No matter how much he wanted completely out of the MC he could not ever be fully out. Only one way out and that was death. He felt like everything he came in contacted with he destroyed. He never felt like he belonged. Not really. He always felt he wanted the things that he could not truly have; money, nice things, luxury, and family. He truly still had a lot to learn. The question is will he learn it before it is to late? If he is not careful everything truly important will slip from his grasp.

There is so much that Sarah does not know about her family and the man that is is falling for. There us so much that Micah does not know. When everything comes out will it destroy everything they have already built?

The Deacons of Bourbon Street....

The biker brothers are gathering one by one back to New Orleans. Their President, Priest, has died and the brotherhood believes he was murdered. The latest, Micah "Prince" Carpenter has returned, reluctantly from his new life in San Francisco. He wears expensive suits that hide his tatts and lives a fast life with money and beautiful women. But, when the Brothers call, he has to answer.

After "persuading" a man hired to kill Priest to talk, it seems their first guess, the Ministry, a rival gang, had nothing to do with his death. A wealthy, socialite New Orleans family is a new suspect.....the Delacroix's. The Deacon's ended up with ownership of a beautiful, but neglected mansion known as Delacroix House. They need to find the connection to how they ended up owning the property and Priest's murder. Former Mardi Gras Princess, Sara Delacroix has decided to throw a huge lavish Christmas Party to cheer up her ailing grandfather. When she goes to inspect the house, she finds tall dark and gorgeous bad boy Micah. He's in a designer suit, threatening and annoying. Micah sees Sarah as "All bless your heart and sweet smiles." But there is a lot of fire behind her sweet smiles. She is not going to accept his "protection" easily. He learns quickly he wants to do more than just protect her, but, he really wants back to his old life in San Francisco. Or does he?

This is the final novel in the Deacons of Bourbon Street series. So many twists, turns and surprises make this an exciting read. Bourbon Street and New Orleans is shown in it's beautiful but dark history, and it's easy to see how it can get into your blood. This is a very enjoyable motorcycle club series, and the characters are fascinating.

Beauty Amid Ashes.

I loved this book. I'm not sure that any book entitled "Gambling Psychology" would include a better profile of the psychopathology that is gambling addiction. The main character's massochism is also a wonderful case study of how such personalities operate and function. The plot is excellent and "granny" is so perfectly described that it's as if the author included a photograph of her. Much of the Russian psyche is on display and the reader will get a glimpse into people and lifestyles that are quite in keeping with what one might find today in our own Roulettenberg, Las Vegas. This was a concise but pleasant ride through human nature.

An engrossing, fun short work

The story behind the creation of The Gambler is well-known--due to heavy debt, Dostoevsky had less than four weeks to write a novel to avoid losing the rights to all his works, both past and future. To make his task a bit easier, he hired the star pupil of a stenography school (whom he later married) to take dictation, and for the material of the novel he borrowed heavily from his own life--he had experience as a compulsive gambler, and he used his mistress Apollinariya Suslova as a model for the character Polina.
The result was an inspired, though by necessity short, work of art. The passages set in the casino do an excellent job of capturing the tortured fascination that gamblers have with the roulette wheel even for readers, such as myself, who have avoided casinos all their lives. However, The Gambler is not just about gambling--it features an intriguing array of characters which are developed quite well in the mere 117 pages of the novel. "Granny," for instance, is probably just about the most amusing character I've seen in Dostoevsky, and the entangled aims of all the characters make for a very lively narrative. It seems as though, if he had the opportunity, Dostoevsky could have written a whole novel about any one of them.
Obviously, The Gambler lacks the depth and brilliance of Dostoevsky's more famous long works, but if you're after a quick, entertaining read, it's really an excellent choice.

God as Lady Luck

The Gambler is primarily a book about obssession and mania, a topic that Dostoyevsky would go on to further explore using criminal, political and religious themes as a backdrop. The God in the gambler is not Christ, but Lady Luck and her spinning ways at the roullette wheel.
This book written while FD was majorly in debt due to gambling losses explores his need to gamble. Moreover, it is a book that contains some of Dostovesky most memorable tertiary characters. Alexi the narrator is a young tutor and part of a Russian general's entourage in a Riviera. He falls in love with the General's neice, who is constantly tormenting, taunting and pathologically luring him. She makes Alexi, who is not only a compulsive gambler, but an impulsive cretin commit "unspeakable" acts to bourgeoise and lesser royalty in public. One instance has Alexi at her command bumping into a German baronesse's breast and not apologizing. Alexi's desperate failure to win the niece's attention's is marked by his increasing need to gamble his pitous funds. But Lady Luck does smile on Alexi for a while (although he is so agitated he doesn't know it), before taking everything away from him: money, love and his meager Russian pride. The novel sees the disintegration and paradoxic increased euphoria of Alexi's character, until he is at the end so depraved that one wonders what keeps him from going mad. It is, of course, the brilliance of the book. Gambling, which is his undoing, is also his ultimate salvation, his wheel spinning, silver ball bouncing hope. The more depraved Aleci becomes the more manic and inspired the prose becomes with Dostoyevsky's frenetic brilliance making the best of us get itchy palms. At the end you yourself will want to hit the roullette wheel with an inspiration that can only come from the poisoned and infectious mind of a religious man and great writer who once viewed God not as the Arbiter of Good and Evil and Creator of Worlds, but God as a roll of dice, a deal of the cards and a most terrible and remorseless spin of the wheel.
Although most people consider this book a minor work, it is Dostoyevsky at his inspired best. While it doesn't have the profound (and morbid) philosophy of Notes from the Underground, it has incredible characterization and a humorous, dramatic narrative

I love the "Get A Clue book series. More importantly, my eight year-old son loves the series. We've struggled to find books that he's interested in and we've definately found them with the Get A Clue books. We read them every night and he hates to put it down for bed. What to expect when starting the Gerson Therapy

This is a terrific book for a Gerson Therapy newbie. It honestly talks about the amount of work and dedication needed to succeed on the Therapy, the hours of prep, juicing, shopping, transport and food storage, as well as the expected and wonderful results. The author, like most newbies, is completely overwhelmed at first, but within a few months, the whole process becomes routine, and even comforting. The food, initially unusual because of the lack of salt and other toxic flavorants, also becomes very appetizing because of the lack of toxicity, and you begin to taste the food, not the salt or sugar. Then the author started experimenting with completely acceptable foods, photographs and recipes included, that made my mouth water just thinking about them! So, here's what to expect in terms of work, need for help, progression towards normality, and eventually robust good health from the Therapy, and a whole bunch of mouth-watering recipes while you're at it.
Ms. Bairstow writes with self-deprecating humor and bares her feelings of elation, despair, exhaustion and relief, occasionally eliciting laughter, tears, recognition and kinship with every other Gerson patient ever!

An amazing companion book for anyone involved with or wanting to better understand the life of a Gerson Person. It's like having an experienced buddy showing me the ropes with daily practices, great recipes and photos too! This is not a replacement for the actual Healing the Gerson Way by Charlotte Gerson but again, it is an exceptional and beneficial companion book! All of this, and proceeds go to supporting such an amazing cause that supports people choosing to move beyond cancer with the Gerson Therapy. Six stars!!!

Not enough visual aids

This is a pretty detailed book, and when the title states step by step, it's not lying. Unfortunately, although there's quite a number of pictures in the book, most parts do no include a visual aid. Trying to teach for example, a sewing style using nothing but words would drive anyone up the wall trying to figure out what exactly the author is saying. It would've been an excellent book, among the many I have bought if every step (especially difficult tasks such as sewing) included images, because this book really teaches quite a variation of binding types and sewing styles.
Nevertheless, I'm going to keep this book as a reference, no regrets buying it.

A good book for all skill levels

I've skimmed through this book several times, and having worked in book repair in a public library for some years now, am pleased to see that all skill levels are addressed. I also liked the boxes and cases for more delicate works.

These are classical instructions for bookmaking, and I plan to add this one to my professional collection at work, for those instances when archival materials are added, and need to be circulated. This should save a lot of those materials for many years.

I borrowed this one from the local library. I liked it so much, I requested it in a gift list. Many may find it too much like a text book, but it works for me. The directions are very clear and concise.
