Wondering how to help your high school student find focus and direction where college is concerned? Have Fun & Get it Done is a book every high-school and college student should read (as well as every parent of a high-school or college student). We recommend this book early (during high-school) as a goal setting and planning tool, and then again during college as a resource guide and as a refresher. The best time to get this book for your student is now. But it's never too late to read Dana's book about planning for and achieving one's goals.

Have Fun & Get it Done is an exceptional book which is highly deserving of praise. Author Jenee Dana (who graduated from UCLA in 3 years) exhibits incredible insight and wisdom, and presents valuable points in a way that is down-to-earth, entertaining and inspiring. Success-aid tips and and planning and goal setting resources are only a part of what makes this book an exceptional read. - This book is written by a recent student, for students. Her whimsical spin and witty personality reads loud and clear through a straight-forward message that will resonate with students in a powerful and meaningful way.

Dana realizes that college is not a one-size-fits all program. Her book is tailored to help students gain insight into their own personal wants and needs through honest and straight-forward introspection.

So, I never leave reviews. EVER. But I felt I had to this time. We have a daughter getting ready to go off to college in the fall and reading this book is helping us realize that we can save an ENTIRE YEARS TUITION! OK, so that would be best case, but the ideas and lessons here, I'm sure, will help her not get carried away with what MTV tell our kids what college is "supposed" to be. This is the kind of info that all inbound college kids need!!

I love this book! I love the style, the selection of topics and the choice of problems to illustrate the ideas discussed. The topics are typical contest problem topics: divisors, absolute value, radical expressions, Veita’s Theorem, squares, divisibility, lots of geometry, and some trigonometry. And the problems are delicious.

Although the book is intended for high school students aiming to do well in national and state math contests like the American Mathematics Competitions, the problems are accessible to very strong middle school students.

The book is well-suited for the teacher-coach interested in sets of problems on a given topic. Each section begins with several substantial solved examples followed by a varied list of problems ranging from easily accessible to very challenging. Solutions are provided for all the problems. In many cases, several solutions are provided.

great book for math competition

Enjoyable problems and splendid solutions! I got these four books and I'm working the first volume right now. The layout of the book is very clean and I like how the notes, examples, and problems go so well together and with the real problems on the AMCs competitions. The solutions are very cleverly explained and clear; easy to read and understand. I highly recommend these four books to start off and lead you to your very successful AMC score( when you finish these books).

Great math competition book

The authors really understand what students need for math competitions. These 4 books are great outline in virtually all important parts of competition math, with reasonably challenging examples and problems. It's very useful for preparing competitions. It's also great to quickly "boost" a few knowledge points for younger but very talented students so that that they can participate higher level competitions which beyond their grades.

This book on more advanced topics is at the same high level as the previous volumes. Many of the topics here are not as clearly presented anywhere else. Highly recommended for Math Clubs and high level students.

About the Author

Cecilia Friend is Professor of Journalism at Utica College. She has been teaching journalism for more than 25 years.  Before that she spent 10 years as a reporter and editor.  Since, she has continued to serve as an editor in various capacities and a writing and design coach.  She is the co-author of "Online Journalism Ethics: Traditions and Transitions," published in 2007. 

Donald Challenger is a writer, editor and teacher who most recently served as college editor at Hamilton College. He has worked for more than 30 years in newspaper and magazine journalism and has taught journalism and writing as an adjunct professor in several programs, including Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

About the Author
George J. Walters was born April 11, 1920, in Catherine, Kansas, and passed from the scene January 11, 1982, a few days after approving the corrected pages of the first edition of this book. He was well acquainted with the language and customs of the Volga Germans. His interest in what happened to the Volga colonies took form at the end of WWII, when he was stationed in Berlin. Here he saw thousands upon thousands of refugees passing through the city. He was in almost daily contact with the Soviet forces then occupying one sector of that divided city. In due time George J. Walters left the 208th Engineer Battalion, where he was Sergeant Major, to return to school. He completed a B.S. degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and later earned a master's degree in psychology at Denver University. After a few years in business, he taught at several posts in the United States, the then Territory of Alaska, and later in the Canal Zone. He also served as an Army officer during the Korean conflict, taking a discharge from the service as a Lieutenant. He traveled widely in thirty-three foreign nations, including the Soviet Union and Germany. During his teaching career he authored many professional papers. More recently, he was co-author with Charles Walters of A Farmer's Guide to Homestead Rights. When interest in the Russia-based roots of many Americans surfaced a few years back, George Walters became a member and finally an officer in the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. At the time of his death he was Kansas City Chapter Treasurer.

A Must Read for All People from German for Russian Families

All four of my grandparents emigrated from Russia to the United States as Germans from Russia. If you are from one of these families, you may not know much about your heritage, as--at least as was the case for large family--our grandparents and parents tried hard to establish themselves as good citizens of their "good stepmother," the United States. Many came between the two world wars and so were hesitant to claim their German ancestry. This book has helped me to understand how proud I should be our my ancestors.

The book is very thorough and well documented. It covers the history of the Germans from Russia from the time they left Europe to reside in Russia and farm the Volga Valley and the steppes near the Black Sea to the present, as many if not most (like my grandparents)found it necessary to again leave everything to find another new homeland.

I wish, however, that people other than Germans from Russia would read it, as our people make up an ethnic group that is seldom discussed in history classes.

About the Author

Lita Linzer Schwartz, Ph.D., is a graduate of Vassar College, Temple University, and Bryn Mawr College, and is Distinguished Professor Emerita of The Pennsylvania State University’s Abington College (née Ogontz Campus). She also holds a diplomate in forensic psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology. She has received three awards from Penn State: Outstanding Teacher from the College of Education Alumni (1981–1982), Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching from the University (1982), and Career Achievement award from the College of Education (1992). Dr. Schwartz is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Forensic Psychologists as well as a member of the International Council of Psychologists and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. In addition to teaching, she is actively involved in a number of writing projects on topics as varied as adoptive and surrogate parenting, cults and sects, media violence and its impact, gifted children, and female artists and photographers.

Natalie Isser, Ph.D., is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and is Professor Emerita of The Pennsylvania State University’s Abington College. She is a member of the American Historical Association, The Western Society for the Study of French History, and the Delaware Valley Association of Modern European Historians. In addition to the books and articles coauthored with Dr. Schwartz, she has written on French anti-Semitism, human rights, and French public opinion and diplomacy during the Second Empire. She teaches part time and has continued research on a variety of topics such as American melodrama, movies, and history; and the social and cultural roots of American populism.

A very good book on the fundamentals of RF analog impairments

This is the only book (as far as I know) describing the mathematical foundation of RF analog impairments with respect to OFDM.
It also gives an OFDM background (with equations) which is very useful and explains how OFDM is degraded due to RF impairments. The equations are written in a very clear way.
The only thing I found not complete (for my understanding) is a description of simulation bench in chapter 3. The bench is described in very general blocks without explaining the details of each block (from the simulator stand point) and nothing is said about what simulator is being used. The simulation results are brought "as-is". But maybe in a second edition it will be improved?..
As RF engineer I found the book very useful to my work.

Clear explanation

This book is helpful for those who want to analysis RF system. Concepts and math in the book are clear. But if you have not learned RF system, I suggest learn it first, since author uses terms like zero-IF and assume you understand it.
I like chapter 2&4, which give system performance calculation and its derivation from RF system perspective. This part is rarely found in other books.For example, how IQ imbalance affects EVM and how to compensate.
