"A fantastic book. Short yet very concise chapters contain a wealth of information, drugs and dose rates are displayed in easy reference tables making it super fast to double check if what you have just drawn into the syringe will be enough or too much!
As this book is a handbook it would be silly to expect it to explain the huge amount of theory behind the subjects of equine anaesthesia, however it is amazing for putting in your back pocket on those long equine surgery nights during rotations to make sure you have vital information with you. I don’t even like equine studies, but I found myself reading pages and pages of the book without realising it, because the information is relayed to the reader in an easy to digest manner.
I can also honestly say that I have already recommended this book to three of my friends who are interested in equine surgery, showed them the book and got the same response each time, which was something along the lines of ‘That is really really good!’

"Equine anaesthesia can be one of those areas dreaded by many clinicians, especially if their practice does not undertake many equine surgical procedures. "This book is a must for all veterinary surgeons who carry out equine work. Not only does it cover all aspects of anaesthesia, but also has an excellent chapter on analgesia, sedation and premedication.

Equine nurses will also find this book useful for its chapter on monitoring. Every equine practice should own several copies, and have one tied to the anaesthetic machine. The chart in the front cover, "A routine for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after cardiac arrest", should be read before induction by most veterinary anaesthesists, unless they carry our general anaesthetics on a daily basis.

To sum up, this is an excellent book, which should be read - and re-read - at every opportunity. The knowledge within will definitely stop many panic situations and, I suspect, it will save many horses' lives."

This book is a good quick reference for during anesthetic procedures. Some info is out of date and there is not a lot of great detail. So it is essentially what it claims, a handbook. I keep it on my anesthesia cart for a quick guide when needed.

The best tarot book on the market!

I have been working with tarot cards for over 10 years now and Dawn has been my go to ever since I picked up my first deck. Her insight and guidance are truly inspirational and whenever I have questions or concerns I turn to her books for guidance. I would have never thought about incorporating a workbook into my tarot studies but they have made all of the difference as they keep me on track and deepen my reflections. Whether you have been working with tarot cards for your entire life or are just starting out, this book is a must buy.

Fantastic Book ...Pattaya explained

Can't put this book down and I have become a fan of Matt Carrell. Being a regular visitor to Bangkok and pattaya I found the book very interesting and informative. The book reveals the darker side of beer bars, agogo's and the involvement of corrupt cops and mafia in the entertainment industry which I could never imagine . On reading the book you can actually visualize the scenes and it feels like you're watching a movie. The book makes you travel to Issaan the rural Thailand and gives you a insight of the rural living. If you are a regular visitor to Pattaya you will love it and if you have never visited Pattaya the book will compel you to go on a visit.

Revealing novel about the dark Underbelly of Life in Pattaya and it's Pitfalls,

I was impressed by Matt Carrell's first novel (Thai Lottery) which is about how it is in the Land of smiles and in Pattaya which although a city in the Chonburi district of thailand, has a unique energy of it's own fueled by the P4P scene that attracts all types of characters including the darker elements of humanity that travel from all parts of the globe.
The interaction between them and the thai people who feed off them and each other is compelling.
There are no 'Marquis of Queensbury' Boxing Ring Rules here.
Pattaya can be more like a Cage Fight in a Small Shed but you never know when, from where or in what form your nemisis might appear...
The unwary and naive will lose - Every time.

I would advise everyone to read 'Thai Lottery' first before getting stuck into 'Thai Kiss' which continues the Pattaya based interaction with different characters and some you will remember from the first novel woven into this very believable revelation of Pattaya life and the many Pitfalls that are to be found here like nowhere else on the planet.

This novel based in Pattaya (aka - 'Disneyland for Adults') reveals a dark underbelly of Lies, Usuary,betrayal,Drug dealing and Corruption enacted by the Criminal wolf Pack/s,The women and Thai Police Officials. Those who have never yet set foot in 'Sin City' will have the the breath slammed out of them right up to and including the very end.

Even after they have closed the book,They will be left wondering if such things could really ever be happening in the 'Land of Smiles'.

Those of us who have come to know the way it is in Thailand would answer with an emphatic, Yes and it happens frequently and in many guises just waiting for the unprepared to arrive.

Matt Carrell knows his subject well and once you have your nose into 'Thai Lottery' you won't be able to resist 'Thai Kiss' which equals if not betters his fast flowing style which grips you from start to finish.

I loved both of these books and hunger for more of this brilliant work of his.

Oscar Wilde, though married to a woman, preferred sex with men; he was convicted of "gross indecency" and sentenced to two years of hard labor in 1895 in what has become a landmark case in queer history. Yet most biographies of the famous playwright and essayist touch only fleetingly on the writer's sexual history. McKenna's masterful, eminently readable new work takes a sharp, very productive turn in Wilde scholarship. While British journalist McKenna (On the Margins) comprehensively covers Wilde's literary and public career, his biography is organized around Wilde's sexuality as expressed in the sexual acts he performed, and on the centrality of his homosexuality to his identity and politics. Rather than limiting the account to trysts and encounters, McKenna opens new venues for understanding Wilde's life and work. McKenna has unearthed a wealth of new primary and secondary sources—the letters, journals, fiction and poetry of such 19th-century homosexual writers as J.A. Symonds and Ronald Gower—that he uses to paint a vivid and engrossing portrait of Uranian (as 19th-century homosexuals called themselves) life and culture in late Victorian England. McKenna's fundamental argument is that Wilde's sexual identity moved him to the center of a nascent movement to destigmatize and even promote homosexuality as an identity. McKenna writes that Wilde and his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, "were passionately, fiercely committed to the Cause... [and needed] to proclaim their sexual orientation to the world." No one who has read anything about Wilde written in the past 20 years will be surprised by most of McKenna's revelations, especially the degree to which Wilde lived a barely disguised double life. If he was closeted at all, it was as if in a glass-walled shower stall. He is now Saint Oscar, pilloried by the philistines and martyr to the cause of sexual liberation. His tale--rising to literary eminence only to suddenly fall as low as Reading Gaol--remains astonishing and moving, and McKenna's passion, wit, and good research make it compelling reading. McKenna excels at revealing how and why his behavior so shocked heterosexual Victorians, and why the half-mad marquis of Queensberry, a devotee of physical culture and heterosexist male roles, would work so hard to bring Wilde down. McKenna also describes Wilde's complex emotional life with particular grace and pathos--it is hard not to tear up while McKenna recounts Wilde's miscalculated libel suit against Queensberry--and sympathetically maps Constance Wilde's dysfunctional, heartbreakingly empty marriage to Wilde. The Secret is Sex

It's my own fault. I wanted to read a biography next, I scanned the biography offerings on Kindle, saw one about Oscar Wilde and clicked "Buy Now" instead of "free sample". So let me make something quite clear: the "secret life" in question is Oscar Wilde's sex life.

Neil McKenna makes the case that no single biography can do justice to the whole life of any subject and proceeds from here. He set out to tell the story of Oscar Wilde as a homosexual man in Victorian England and most else in Oscar's life takes a back seat to that. This isn't the book I set out to read but I'm not disappointed to have read it. Somewhere along the way I received the wisdom that Oscar Wilde was just another metrosexual Victorian man until Bosie (Lord Alfred Douglas) rolled onto the scene. McKenna makes it clear that was not the case.

There is a whiff about this book of "reclaiming" Oscar. Yes, I'm convinced Oscar was a gay man and I'm certainly interested in rereading some of his work in light of McKenna's interpretations of Dorian Gray and Willie Hughes. On the other hand: Who knew reading about another person's sex life in such detail could be a chore? When Bosie and Oscar aren't bedding rent boys or other fetching creatures, they're racking up charges at five star restaurants and hotels. Unfortunately, that's all they seem to do a lot of the time and it gets a little dull. Maybe it's the mindless promiscuity involved, maybe it's that I'm not a gay man or maybe my Puritan roots go stronger than I realize but by the time the bailiffs came for Oscar I admit I was relieved.

McKenna is a tad myopic. Anything and everything is examined for tell tale signs that Oscar was gay and writing for a gay audience. Not surprisingly, he always finds signs. From Dorian Grey - ok, that's an easy one - to the Happy Prince, McKenna will have you seeing hidden messages everywhere. Bless his heart there isn't an inanimate object in your house that isn't a "code word for" for "Uranian love" when McKenna's on the case. This can lead to some giggle-worthy interpretations, my favorite being the "persistent rumor" that Saint Sebastian wasn't shot through with a hundred arrows but gang-raped by the entire Praetorian Guard and bled to death. Where do you even start on a theory like that? I'll start with the fact that I've never, ever heard that before nor does it make a lot of sense especially since the fact that the "arrows" didn't kill Sebastian is one of the reasons he was made a saint. He was actually beaten to death. (Unless I'm once again behind on the rumors.)

Still, I can't write this book off as all agenda and no substance. McKenna does a create a compelling portrait of Oscar Wilde as a man who accepted his sexuality and genuinely loved Bosie. Now why he loved that mess of a human being is anyone's guess. Bosie may have been the cat's meow in his day but that's no excuse to letting him in the house. Selfish, bratty, vindictive, nasty, and way too interested in young boys, Bosie nearly single-handedly creates the scandal that destroys Oscar and then tops all this by going straight in later life. You'll be hard pressed not to side with Oscar friends who want to keep him away from this human wrecking ball.

This is an interesting book. Not the definitive biography of Oscar Wilde but an interesting exploration into a relatively unknown aspect of Victorian life. Just bear in mind that sometimes a cigar is a cigar even when the smoker in question is Oscar Wilde.

A page turner!

I admit that I knew very little of Oscar Wilde when I chose this particular book, at random. What an excellent choice for a novice as well as a Wilde devotee! Not only did I appreciate the tragic love story of Oscar, Constance, and Bosie, but I also gained an insight into Victorian mores and political machinations. We apparently can't claim the corner on the market of corrupt zealots.
If you haven't read Mr. McKenna's work, you must. In the biography arena, this book is beyond the realm.

Capitalism is historically pervasive. Despite attempts through the centuries to suppress or control the private ownership of commercial assets, production and trade for profit has survived and, ultimately, flourished. Against this backdrop, accounting provides a fundamental insight: the ‘value’ of physical and intangible capital assets that are used in production is identically equal to the sum of the debt liabilities and equity capital that are used to finance those assets. In modern times, this appears as the balance sheet relationship. In determining the ‘value’ of items on the balance sheet, equity capital appears as a residual calculated as the difference between the ‘value’ of assets and liabilities. Through the centuries, the organization of capitalist activities has changed considerably, dramatically impacting the methods used to value, trade and organize equity capital. To reflect these changes, this book is divided into four parts that roughly correspond to major historical changes in equity capital organization.

The first part of this book examines the rudimentary commercial ventures that characterized trading for profit from ancient times until the contributions of the medieval scholastics that affirmed the moral value of equity capital. The second part deals with the evolution of equity capital organization used in seaborne trade of the medieval and Renaissance Italian city states and in the early colonization ventures of western European powers and ends with the emergence in the market for tradeable equity capital shares during the 17th century. The third part begins with the 1719-1720 Mississippi scheme and South Sea bubbles in northern Europe and continues to cover the transition from joint stock companies to limited liability corporations with autonomous shares in England, America and France during the 19th century. This part ends with a fundamental transition in the social conception of equity capital from a concern with equity capital organization to the problem of determining value. The final part is concerned with the evolving valuation and management of equity capital from the 1920s to the present. This period includes the improvement corporate accounting for publicly traded shares engendered by the Great Depression that has facilitated the use of ‘value investing’ techniques and the conflicting emergence of portfolio management methods of modern Finance.

About the Author
Patricia Libby is Chair of the Department of Accounting and Associate Professor of Accounting at Ithaca College, where she teaches the undergraduate financial accounting course. She previously taught graduate and undergraduate financial accounting at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Texas. Before entering academe, she was an auditor with Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and a financial administrator at the University of Chicago. She received her B.S. from Pennsylvania State University, her M.B.A. from DePaul University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan; she is also a CPA.
Pat conducts research on using cases in the introductory course and other parts of the accounting curriculum. She has published articles in The Accounting Review, Issues in Accounting Education, and The Michigan CPA. She has also conducted seminars nation-wide on active learning strategies, including cooperative learning methods.

Dan Short is the Dean of the M.J. Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.  Prior to that he was Dean at Richard T. Farmer School of Business at Miami University and Dean of the Business School at Kansas State University.  Before entering adminstration, Dan taught at the University of Texas-Austin and the University of Chicago.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.  He has won numerous teaching awards during his career teaching both undergraduate and MBA financial accounting courses.

Robert Libby is the David A. Thomas Professor of Management at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, where he teaches the introductory financial accounting course. He previously taught at the University of Illinois, Pennsylvania State University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Chicago, and University of Michigan. He received his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University and his M.A.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois; he is also a CPA.
Bob is a widely published author specializing in behavioral accounting. He was selected as the AAA Outstanding Educator in 2000. His prior text, Accounting and Human Information Processing (Prentice Hall, 1981), was awarded the AICPA/AAA Notable Contributions to the Accounting Literature Award. He received this award again in 1996 for a paper. He has published numerous articles in the Journal of Accounting Research; Accounting, Organizations, and Society; and other accounting journals. He is past Vice President-Publications of the American Accounting Association and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the editorial boards of The Accounting Review; Accounting, Organizations, and Society; Journal of Accounting Literature; and Journal of Behavioral Decision Making.

As good as "financial accounting" is ever gonna get.

This good is very helpful, both graphically and technically. I does a great job of explaining everything in plain english and reenforcing those lesson with real world experience. The one complain i have is that there is no answer key so that I can verify my answer (after all, one slip up can effect every following financial document).

HEY LIBBY, LIBBY, AND SHORT! If you can hear me, quit trying to "force the readers to learn." If they want to cheat and not understand the material, then let them get fired from their jobs in five years for not knowing how to do their jobs. The rest of us hard working students are left scratching our heads, wondering if the work we did was correct. INCLUDE AN ANSWER KEY.

Lucid, intersting and easy to follow

I am an engineer running a small company. Last year I bought an accounting package to keep better track of my business. Though the software is great the accompaning manuals are of no use and their concise introduction to accounting did make matters worse.
I have been looking at several accounting manuals but could not find one I could just sit down with and read on my own.
Well now I have found it. This manual is easy to read, clear and to the point and the real company examples make it interesting. After reading only two chapter I realized that the information that came with the accounting software put me totally on the wrong track.
I can recommend this book, manual very highly.
